·        Mucosa; Mucous membrane (Tunica mucosa)

o       Epithelium

§         stratified sqamous

§         one-layered  cylindrical

o       Lamina propria mucosae

o       Muscularis mucosae (Lamina muscularis mucosae)

folds (plicae), villi, microvilli, glands (glandulae), papillae

·        Submucosa (Tela submucosa)

o       absent in dorsum of tongue and gall-bladder

o       enalbes sliding movements of the mucosa against the muscular layer.

o       clinical importance: oesophagus – rich venous plexuses (as a part of the portocaval anastomoses system), duodenum - glandulae duodenales (Brunneri)

·        Muscular layer; Muscular coat (Tunica muscularis)

o       stratified (beginning and end of the tube)

o       non-stratified = smooth

§         outer longitudinal layer (stratum longitudinale)

§         ihned circular layer (stratum circulare)

§         exception: stomach (3 layers)

·        Outer layer; Outer coat

o       Adventitia

o       Peritoneum = Serosa; serous coat (Tunica serosa)

§         Subserosa; Subserous layer (Tela subserosa)
